My Mom reminded me last Christmas how her daughter was a photographer and still she had no family pictures. So, for a suprise Mother's/Father's Day gift, I booked a photographer to shoot a session for us during our time in Puerto Rico last month.

Orlando Negron did a great job with the group I gave him- it's not easy to comfortably pose 6 adults. It was great to get to watch another professional work, and also be able to appreciate their unique perspective. I love that ONE, we have recent pictures of our family, and TWO, that they're in beautiful San Juan!

I'll definitely be looking to include a portrait session in our future vacations- definitely the best investment I made.

Here are a few of my favorites-

cleaning house *UPDATED*

personallissa-anglin1 Comment

It's time for me to upgrade some equipment and so I'm doing a little house cleaning!

I'll be putting these items up on eBay June 20 (Sunday), but I thought I'd give my blog readers a chance to scoop them up before then, since I'm constantly being asked what type of equipment I recommend, AND I always recommend buying used.

Up for sale is a used Nikon D200. It's been my backup camera, so it hasn't seen near as much action as my main cameras. The shutter actuations read 79,700.

There are some small scratches above the shutter wheel and the cover for the lcd screen has a portion missing. Both of these are purely cosmetic and have nothing to do with the quality of image you will get from the camera.

It comes with the original box, camera strap, and User's Manual, Software discs, and Quick Start Guide. I am not including the EN-EL3e battery or charger or memory cards since I can still use these for my other cameras.

I'm asking 600.00. Here are some pictures-

Below you can see the portion of the lcd screen cover that is broken. The lcd is in perfect condition.

Here you can see the scratches above the shutter wheel.

Also up for sale is my Nikon Nikkor 17-35 wide angle lens. You can read the great reviews on it here. If you're looking to buy a wide angle lens, this is a great choice. It has a low aperture of 2.8, and the focal length is very versatile.

It comes with a custom fit case and front and back caps, plus the lens hood.

Price is 1400.00.

ALSO! Just a reminder- the deadline for my Summer Photo Contest is tomorrow! You have till midnight to send in your entries. I've received quite a few entries so far, and have totally enjoyed getting to see what people come up with. Email your image to lissa.anglin@gmail.com.

*UPDATE*

After much deliberation, I've decided to go for it and sell many of my much-loved lenses so that I can completely refresh my gear. Look out- there is some good stuff here!

Tamron 17-50mm 2.8. This was my first lens I purchased for my D200 and it was worth every penny. Great for portraits. It has a tiny scratch on the glass, but that hasn't stopped me from using it since it doesn't appear on the images. 275.00

You can see the scratch in the lower right hand side of the glass (looks like a white dot).

Tokina 12-24 wide angle. I WISH I could duplicate this lens for my full-frame camera- that's how much I like it. Perfect working condition. 450.00

Sigma 30mm. This baby has a low, low 1.4 aperture. I typically like to whip it out at a concert or reception- anywhere I'm getting low or dramatic light. Comes with a canvas carrying case. 275.00

It pains me to offer up this one- my Nikkor 14mm 2.8. When I'm shooting with this one, many people ask me if it is a fisheye lens. It isn't, but it is an ultra-wide angle, and typically gives me that spacial feeling I'm looking for. Beautiful lens. No box with this one. 1100.00.

And last but not least, a D200 grip. This will hold two extra batteries, and it also gives you a vertical shutter button. 100.00. If sold along with the D200 camera, I'll knock it down to 50.00.

Like I said, these will all be listed on eBay on Sunday, so if you are interested, please email me! I'll be happy to answer any questions. lissa.anglin@gmail.com

puerto rico • family vacation

personallissa-anglin4 Comments

My family has been planning a vacation to Puerto Rico for some time now. Some of the students my parents have become involved with thru the Adopt-A-Student program at their church are from Puerto Rico, and so it was a great reason to go! We had an awesome time together. Lauren just recently graduated from Baylor with her degree in Fashion Design, and Layne completed her first year at A&M with a 4.0! So this trip was also in celebration of their hard work.

I think the thing I enjoyed most about the island was A) getting to spend some rare time with my fam, B) the gorgeous colors/scenery, and C) the people! Virtually everyone we met was extremely helpful and courteous. I think I could adjust to island life...

Here are a few (ok, a lot) of pictures I pulled from my camera. I took my point and shoot down to the beach, where it got sand in the lens...so here's to hoping I can retreive the images from it soon.

This was the view from our condo. (Not bad, eh?) My dad found the listing on vrbo.com, and I highly recommend the site!

Sometimes, I would lose Shawn, and he was always found out on the deck.

The first day, we visited a friend's house in Ponce, and her family made us some deliecious Puerto Rican food. These bananas were growing in their backyard! They also had a serious herb garden.

Layne and their dog, Pulga. "Pulga" means tick or flea- perfect- he was tiny!

Ponce has a huge highway entrance that spells out "Ponce". Here we are in the letter C!

We walked around downtown Ponce for the rest of the afternoon. There is a beautiful Catholic church there that was just about to gather for mass.

We went out to the pier, and there were pelicans everywhere. I have to admit, they freaked me out!

Here are some from Old San Juan.

Shawn and I took the brunt of the wide-angle-ness in this one.

Layne had the impulse to fly a kite outside the El Morro Fort. It was about to rain and being so close to the beach there was plenty of wind, so she and Shawn got the job done. Can you see the tiny kite in the background?

There is so much more I could share with you! We went zip-lining through the rainforest and kayaked in glowing water, and I also lost a diamond in my wedding ring (which will get replaced). It was an awesome trip though!

Later today I'll be posting new pictures of the puppies- they are getting so big! So be sure to check out the SCOTTIE PAGE for those images. They're getting closer to 8 weeks, when they can be sold, and we've started taking deposits. Let me know if you are interested or would like to come by and see them!

east asia

Several people have asked me to blog some images from my time in East Asia, so get ready for photo-overload! I did my best to get a good selection of what I saw...but there's just no way to describe it.

A couple mornings after I'd been home, I woke up wishing I was back in Asia. There's a different feel about life. Maybe it's culture or because I was only there for a short time, but I will never forget the value of having a different perspective.

Relationships are valuable. They're extremely important. I enjoyed seeing the pagodas and eating a different type of food, but those things are fringes of what I'll remember most. I'm going to do my best to describe to you the images to follow, but there is so much story behind each of them that I hope you can grasp the full experience!

Much of our time was spent in one of these:

This is a cab (duh). Most drivers have some sort of religious tassel hanging from their rear-view mirror. Once, taking advantage of the fact that many people don't understand English, Jason turned to the driver and said, "So I see this cab is Budda-powered. How's that working out for ya?" Of course the driver paid no attention...but we laughed pretty hard.

This is a "taxi" as well.

On our first full day, we visited a nearby mountain that had some great views of the city. This is the entrance.

One example of "Chinglish". This is one side of a trash can- I'm guessing the side for non-recyclable items.

Gorgeous cherry blossoms.

Incense burning outside a temple.

The red ribbons are prayer ribbons- but I don't know the purpose of the lock.

This is sweet baby Carson with his daddy. Carson is just so precious- Lindsey and I wanted to take him home!

The women have an incessant habit of nosiness...especially when there's a baby around. :)

Some snapshots from the Meat Market.

This isn't the greatest repair feat we got to see...I wish I had taken a picture of the man atop a highwire, held up by his buddy and a bamboo ladder.

We got to go to a local park to visit some elderly people Jason and Lindsey made friends with last year. They all play a hackey-sack like game that we call "feather kick". These people may be older, but they are definitely in better shape than I am! Here's a cute one of Lindsey:

This man is the teacher of the game. He kept telling Lindsey and I to put our hands behind our backs so we didn't use them!

Check out Jason's outfit- he had it made last year. When we walked around the corner, the group recognized he and Lindsey immediately!

Remember the thing I said about nosiness?

They had a cool top game that turned out to be pretty hard.

Bishop trying his hand.

We got to be a part of a game night at a University. It was really fun- made a lot of new friends there.

The next day we got to hike out to a natural landbridge. Actually, we just got to hike out to the ocean. The tickets for the landbride were way overpriced, and we were up for a little adventure! Here is Lindsey and Air.

Lindsey and I. Sorry for the crazy arms! I was being lazy!

Some of the friends that came with us.

The Bishop deep in thought.

Marcus and Jason.

Our group!

Here's the view from our hotel room:

We ate at a Mongolian restaurant one rainy night. These geese lived outside the restaurant. They were either pets of the owners or future dinner...

One of our friends is an English professor at the University and asked us if we'd come speak to her students. Since it was a beginning English class, there wasn't much talking, but we did take a LOT of pictures!

We spent a full day in Beijing, which went from a beautiful sunny day to so foggy we started to worry that our flight would be cancelled.

On our last night, Katlyn took Lindsey and I to see an Acrobat show. It was amazing! I spent the entire time gawking and worrying they would fall!

There was a lady walking around patrolling the use of cameras, but I snuck one in. Take that, camera lady!

(Yes, this picture is of 10 girls on 1 bicycle!)

I had a wonderful time. I was amazed the things that God did in my own heart and the hearts of others as well. This won't be the last visit!

I'm back from East Asia, and I have so much to share with you!

personallissa-anglin3 Comments

Wow, life has been running at such a fast pace this month- I got in from East Asia yesterday morning, and not only am I overwhelmed by the amount of work I have, but I am overwhelmed by God's provision for me to be able to have so many awesome opportunities. I am already hard at work- to for those clients who have been more than patient so far- thank you!

I'll be featuring my trip in an upcoming blog post, but first I wanted to share about the suprise I came home to! Lola had 5 adorable little puppies on April 17. She is a super Mommy, taking care of them round the clock. Willy even watches over them occasionally. They are all very healthy and happy.

We have 3 black females (one has a tiny white spot on her chin, just like our male Willy has), 1 black male, and 1 wheaten male (white). I hope you don't mind me keeping you updated on the pups! Here are a few pictures I took with my point-and-shoot yesterday.

Lola and her puppies in the whelping box.

Lola sleeping with the wheaten male. He is always found sleeping by her head, or ON her head. He's like a little polar bear!

Of course I'll have more pictures soon. We'll begin taking deposits for them in the coming weeks- email me if you are interested! lissa.anglin@gmail.com
